Jesus Teaches on the Mount of Olives (The Olivet Discussion)

Mount of Olives

Dominating Jerusalem's eastern skyline is this prolonged mountain range, the Mount of Olives. Named so after the olive trees, which grow on its slopes, this mountain is a location of many biblical events, especially of those tied with Jesus' passion week. In the Old Testament the glory of the Lord last stood over the Mount of Olives (Ezek. 11:23) and Zechariah prophesied the splitting of the mountain at the coming of Messiah (14:4).
